5 best countries to visit as international travel rebounds
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and its partner ForwardKeys, there’s going to be a major uptick in international flight bookings this year as countries across the globe slowly reopen their borders and ease travel restrictions. With its sun, sea, and, of course, close proximity to the US, it’s no surprise that Latin American countries are predicted to be leading destinations for international arrivals. Before you pack your bags and set off on a trip, check out the 5 best countries to visit in this Pacific Prime Latin America article.
Mexico
Did you know that Mexico City is experiencing a resurgence on the travel scene this year? Take Bosque Chapultepec, for instance. As one of the best places to visit in the city, the cultural center is undergoing renovation in the hopes of becoming the biggest and largest of its kind in the world. Whether it’s for its vibrant food, art, or nightlife, Mexico City is also the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more.

Peru
While Peru is world-famous for Machu Picchu, this Latin American country has plenty of other gems. One example is Huacachina, located 200 miles south of the capital Lima. Here, you’ll find an arid coastal desert that is home to the world’s second-highest sand dune. Think of it as an oasis in the desert! From riding dune buggies to sandboarding and checking out 3,869-foot Cerro Blanco’s desert thrills, there’s also no shortage of things to see and do in Huacachina.
Barbados
The South Coast of Barbados certainly won’t disappoint. Traditionally known for its barefoot hotels, this stunning region is seeing a rise in luxury hotels and restaurants. It also goes without saying that the region’s culinary scene is also buzzing. Foodies can explore street food halls with live music and pop-ups serving global flavors from Sushi to Jerk. Cocktail bars with sunset views and beachfront, waterside dining are also great options.
Grenada
If you fancy paddling a clear kayak in an aqua lagoon, whilst nibbling on local chocolate, then Grenada is for you. Aside from chocolate, this Caribbean island’s food scene is about fresh seafood and aromatic spices. But there’s so much more to do than just dining. The list includes waterfalls, rainforests, and activities like snorkeling or diving. As Grenada will be celebrating Spicemas 2022 (Carnal) in August, there’s also enough fun and festivities to go around.
Martinique
Martinique was recently crowned as the top emerging destination in the world by Tripadvisors. Of course, there’s the Carnival to attend. But there’s also more. Martinique has got sprawling mountains and clear white and black sand beaches to explore. The cherry on top? UNESCO also recently named the entire island a World Biosphere Reserve, which is the second UNESCO distinction for the island.
Itching to travel and explore? Secure travel insurance first!
Before you book flights and hop on a plane, it’s advisable to make sure you have a valid travel insurance or international health insurance plan (essentially a private health insurance plan that’s globally portable) first. This will enable you to access the best medical services whilst traveling – should the need arise, and means that you’ll not need to worry about paying sky-high medical expenses out of pocket. As we all know, hospital bills can really spiral and turn a dream trip into a nightmare.
